By now you know that you should be getting your daily dose of vitamin D! There is more clinical evidence than ever supporting its health benefits: since 2019, over 130 published studies have demonstrated that adequate vitamin D stores may support one’s ability to stay healthy.
While a dose of 800 IU per day is generally enough for maintaining adequate vitamin D serum levels, our long winters, short summers and reduced amount of sun exposure in Canada may lead us to need more. Different populations also require more: seniors produce one quarter the amount of vitamin D that they did in their twenties, people with darker skin tones on average produce half the amount as people with lighter skin tones, and those with certain chronic diseases may have more difficulty absorbing vitamin D.
In response, Health Canada has increased the maximum dose of vitamin D3 in supplements to 2,500 IU based on this growing clinical evidence of its safety. Health First offers Vitamin D3 Extra Strength 2,500 IU in both gelcap and liquid formats so you can choose your best way to get that daily dose!
